Reg # work like this on the pre-production cars
Single carb 2000;s where JXC101D, 102D, etc. 2000TC were 201, 202,
etc.V8 cars 801, 802, etc.
Steering & Suspension car was 809D
In early 1969 809D was loaded to Peter Brownings Competition Dept at
Abington (MG) to try it out at a rallycross car with Geoff Mabbs driving
it, but it wasn't a big success. IN June Rob Lyall took 808D to a
autocross (in the dirt) after William Martin-Hurst asked him to to see
if he could beat his sons Rover V8 powered Escort. The rain was heavy
that day and the Rover couldn't accomplish the task (my opinion is the
power to weight ratio of the P6B vs the v8 Escort did it in). 808D
later went to Bill Shaw racing and converted into a race car, and later
806D was also made into a race car with a 4.4L Rover v8 that my dad had
help create! This car led the 1970 Marathon by 3-laps before rear
propshaft vibration sidelined it at Nurburgring. I rode in this car to
the San Francisco Motor Show down the Bayshore freeway from dads office
in Brisbane to Brookes Hall with one of dads dealer plates on the back!!
